Barbacoa y Rojo Grande
In Collaboration with Soup, The Masa Collective, Nomas Arte Studios, & Centro
“So Sweet, So San Anto” ❤️🔥
Barbacoa and Big Red were more than just a Sunday tradition growing up in San Antonio—they were a ritual. One of the rare times my family would gather at the dining table, catching up after a long week over plates of slow-cooked goodness and ice-cold Rojo Grande. It’s a core memory, and one that made this mural so special to create.
This piece wouldn’t have been possible without the support of The Masa Collective, Nomas Arte Studios, Centro San Antonio, and—of course—my loving partner Nik ‘Soup’ Soupe. Soup’s ability to add depth and dimension to my graphic illustrative style brought this piece to life in a way that only he could.
My Favorite Details:
❤️🔥 ROJO GRANDE – A playful twist on Big Red’s iconic branding, with hidden San Antonio Easter eggs like “So Sweet, So San Anto” and “2 ONE OH.”
🧂 “ALWYS worth the Salt” – Inspired by the phrase "worth one's salt," this nod goes out to artists and creators who bring immense value to their craft and communities.
🎁 The gift wrap! – A reworked version of the classic Spurs Fiesta pattern, paying homage to the team’s deep roots in San Anto culture.
This mural debuted as part of Centro San Antonio’s Holidays on Houston Street Market in December 2023. Seeing people interact with it, take photos, and connect with the nostalgia behind it was an absolute joy. San Antonio’s love for barbacoa and Big Red runs deep, and I’m grateful to have captured a little piece of that magic in this piece.
